What you’ll receive
The straightforward amount is up to £545 annually, but could be affected and varied depending upon your circumstances. For example, if you are caring for a child that is disabled, or if you have a low income into your domestic home this may vary your entitlement.
You could also receive bonuses on top of this amount. These are referred to as ‘elements’.
For a child that is disabled these elements can be up to as much as £3015 annually.
The tax year ends on April 5th and you will be paid from the day you claim the Child Tax Credit up until this date into the bank account of the person who is primarily responsible for the child.
Your income does affect the amount you can receive although there is no limit on the amount you can be earning to apply to claim the benefit, nor that of a spouse or partner also living in the household.
If your home situation varies your Child Tax Credit can also be affected. You must account these changes immediately. These could be things such as a child leaving the household or changes in the household incomings.
